Everybody remembers the ASUS Eee PC’s when they were first unveiled and remains till date one of the most widely used netbooks worldwide. we know however that ASUS puts out a new version of its much acclaimed EE pc’s every couple of months so i admit that its quite ‘Eee C’ to get lost in the mix! Now what we’re looking in this review is its latest version, the new ASUS Eee PC 1005HA which is definitely one of my favorites among the ASUS family so far.

Now the ASUS 1005HA inherits quite a number of quality traits from its predecessor the 1008HA which in itself was a fairly good netbook especially in terms of design which was quite revolutionary since it bade farewell to the crude box type design which represented the Eee PCs of the past. The 1005HA however retains the slimmer and stylish looks of the 1008HA which no doubt adds to its ‘coolness quotient’. The note book is said to be available in two colors, blue and black. But still the design is not all that perfect, the slimming down has included sacrificing several space saving features of the 1008HA.

This latest model also leaves behind the inconvenient cover flaps covering the ports and instead sticks them in the side. But more importantly the new Asus Eee PC 1005HA adds something that was much sought after in the Asus Eee 1008HA yes it has replaced the non removable batteries with the standard six-cell batteries which improve its battery life significantly. In fact the 1008HA has the best battery life EVER seen on any netbook and even almost the best battery life on a laptop so an average user must be able to use it for an entire day without having to worry about a recharge! Cool isn’t it?

The inside of the new Asus Eee PC 1000ha packs the whole lot of standard netbook components such as the 10 inch LED display, the 1.66GHz Intel Atom which is the slightly faster N280 version, windows XP. a gigabyte of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive.

Another commendable feature of this netbook would be its brilliant keyboard (which ASUS introduced in its previous version itself) with its wide, flat keys that are quite easy to use. The full size right shift key is also really important feature that has been included.

The touchpad is also of quite a decent size for a netbook and it is also placed on a kind of raised surface so that we can demarcate the touch pad. There is also a button on top of the keyboard to disable the touchpad in case you want to use a separate mouse. the 1005HA is also very keen on saving power (not that it really needs it considering its solid battery life)as is apparent by replacing the LCD with the much more energy efficient LED display and not only that it also has an additional feature which enables us to switch to lower power profiles when in need or during emergency situations.

Finally the best thing about this new model is that the previous model (that is the ASUS Eee PC 1008HA) was priced at around $429, which was a little bit overpriced considering its somewhat limited features and that psychological barrier of the  $399  mark(for a netbook that is). The new ASUS 1005HA however comes in at around $385! So it kind of sits comfortably in that general price range for the standard upscale netbooks. So combining this new lowered price to the added battery life should make the new ASUS Eee PC 1005HA our current favorite netbook!
