Nokia 6500 Classic – average sized alphanumeric keypad
Cell Phones — February 28, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowThin phones have been around for a while but Nokia didn’t adapt this design initially. However, they have done it know in the form of phones like Nokia 6500 classic. The Nokia 6300 was a big success in the market and this has led the manufacturer to produce more lanky handsets. This can be also said for business phones like E51. The super slim design of the Nokia 6500 classic puts it in the same range as the Sony Ericsson W880i and Samsung Ultra Edition 8.4.
Nokia 6500 is more of a design centric handset but the lean form factor really struck me. There is plenty to like about the device; it is just 9.5 mm thick and it is one of the thinnest phones I have ever seen to date. Samsung Ultra Edition 5.9 is thinner than this but the classic and sleek looks of the Nokia 6500 Classic makes it comfortable in the hand. On the top half, the chassis has aluminum anodized frame which [...]
Verizon iPhone 2011 – Is it different from AT&T’s product?
Cell Phones — February 27, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowVerizon iPhone 2011 is faster at loading videos, maps, and Websites as compared to the AT&T’s model. For instance, I was done with watching a clip on YouTube while the AT&T’s device was struggling with the speeds. There are a lot of times when I couldn’t make a phone call on the AT&T phone but on the Verizon iPhone 2011 I got past things quickly.
For me, the Verizon iPhone 2011 is faster but this might not be true in all parts of the country. AT&T has made some upgrades to its network and in some places, the Verizon network lags behind. Verizon iPhone 2011 is based on CDMA network where as AT&T is using GSM technology which is used more in all parts of the world. With the Verizon model, you cannot roam a lot. [...]
Samsung Galaxy Indulge – Good interface
Cell Phones — February 25, 2011 at 12:04 am | Comment NowSamsung Galaxy Indulge has Samsung TouchWiz 3.0 interface which is now quite popular amongst cell phone users. But this device is running a trimmed version of it and you don’t get features like Samsung’s Media Hub and mobile hot spot. On the top, there is a pull down notification having one touch controls for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi on/off toggle, GPS, airplane mode on/off toggle and vibrate mode. This phone has 7 home screens and you can reduce the number if you don’t want as many. Pinching on the display gives you a consolidated view of the home screens.
On each screen’s bottom, there are 4 shortcuts for application launcher, messaging inbox, address book and dialer. These shortcuts can be accessed from the application tray as well. The app tray icons have a square shape and look quite colorful against black background. For moving through the apps, you need to swipe horizontally and [...]
Sidekick LX 2009 review – Good call quality
Cell Phones — February 20, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowThe new Sidekick LX is a bit bigger than the predecessor, Sidekick 2008. The keyboard has been made better, the UI or user interface is improved and the screen too is bigger. Home screen on this cell phone now has more fluid animation and larger icons but long time users won’t have any problem adjusting to it.
Sidekick LX now has integrated GPS along with Microsoft Live Search which brings some direction/map finding feature in to the gadget. Indoors, the GPS was iffy but outdoors it was alright. I also found that the actual usage was a bit awkward. You will have to tell the phone manually for finding the location; then you will have to open the Live Search and choose "my location at 9:53 AM" for doing anything with it. This is different from how GPS on mobile phones usually work. There are lots of privacy settings and I liked this because the phone is [...]
Nextel cell phones review of Motorola i580
Cell Phones — February 18, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowI have tested a few Nextel cell phones before and one thing that’s really appreciated in this company’s handset is the rugged durability. Models like i530 and i355 have a tank like build with protective thick skins that are made for withstanding impacts. The carrier has put in trendier designs since then with phones like Motorola i850. I got the Motorola i580 in my labs recently for testing and this device stays true to roots of Nextel cell phones.
It is sturdy, tough and built solidly; this handset has all the Nextel offerings that you’d expect and with a respectable feature set including speakerphone, Bluetooth, support for 2 separate phone lines and microSD card slot. The device is a bit pricey though; you will have to pay $249 along with the service.
Motorola i580 isn’t made for the sissies. It is a burly handset from rubberized, 2 toned [...]
Cheap unlocked phones – Two handsets reviewed
Cell Phones — February 16, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowMotorola W375 is one of the many cheap unlocked phones in the market and it is really affordable. Considering the features that it has to offer for such a low price, I think it is great value for money. Motorola W375 is one of those cheap unlocked phones which is light, small, cheap and can be dropped accidentally without any fears of it getting broken. It is a clamshell phone and on the lid, there is no display which is a bit disappointing because a lot of flap model phones do have one.
I have asked a couple of my friends who have been using this phone and they said that there is no problem of call quality, you can easily talk to people even in noisy and crowded areas because the volume level is big enough.
However, there is a problem of signal strength, it does go down every easily. On the bright side, the battery of this phone lasts really long for about ten [...]
iPhone 5 – What to expect
Cell Phones — February 14, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowApple iPhone 4 has been selling well in the market and the manufacturer is doing well to keep up with the rising demand of CDMA and GSM versions of the phone. There are rumors that iPhone 5 will be launched soon and we expect it to be having candy bar design. Apple hasn’t really played with the design of the iPhone over the years and hence we think it will have the same candy bar design. iPhone 4 did have some problems with the rear glass covers and antenna design but it was a good phone overall.
iPhone 5 will also have the same gorgeous retina display. The screen is the best part about the phone and hence the company will not change it in the iPhone 5. The new phone will also have the same five megapixel shooter but the resolution might be improved. The shooter on the iPhone is the best I have ever seen to date. The pictures look really good and this device can easily [...]
