The Need for Universal Charger Plugs

Cell Phones, Consumer Electronics — May 9, 2009 at 11:33 pm | 2 Comments
How many mobile phones have you owned in your life? Or to phrase the question more accurately, how many phones do you currently use? I often carry in my pocket or "man bag" three phones at any given time. And they're all made by different manufacturers. And guess what! They all have different charging plugs. This means I have to plug them in using different chargers. And this becomes a bother when travelling. I most definitely have to carry all three chargers, or else Iw would end up having at least one dead phone during my journey. This did not use to be the case with my old Nokia phones. Back in the good old days, all my Nokia phones shared a common charging plug, or at least most of them did. You could use the charger on my old 6210 to power up my newer 6100. You could even use it on even newer phones. But when Nokia  [...]

Consumer Electronics, Laptops — May 2, 2009 at 2:35 am | 3 Comments
Previously we discussed preferences for notebook sizes. Now it's time for you to tell us which netbook size you are. Netbooks are, of course, those tiny, mini-sized notebook computers that cost a fraction of the price of their bigger siblings, but do pretty much the same. By definition, netbooks are considered devices that are used primarily to run applications on the Cloud, or via the Internet. Having lower-powered specs than full-fledged notebooks, netbooks are mostly used for Web browsing, email and other forms of online activity via the Web browser. But of course, netbook users know that these little gadgets are just as usable and powerful as bigger computers in many aspects. Through the several months that netbooks  [...]

How Do You Dispose Of Your Old Gadgets?

Consumer Electronics, Gadgets — April 28, 2009 at 12:43 am | 1 Comment
For gadget lovers, snapping up the latest, newest, coolest gadget every few months is a way of life. The moment you buy your mobile phone, media player, or digital camera, it's almost obsolete. It's just a matter of time when you'll decide to upgrade, to get the latest features and snazziest designs. What do you usually do with gadgets that you replace? Some gadget lovers exercise prudence and sell their old devices online, give them to friends, or hand them down to relatives or family members. I've often handed given my used mobile phones and laptops to my siblings. Or to help finance upgrades, I sometimes sell my used computers and peripherals online, often at big discounts. Yet some gadget lovers keep all their old devices after being replaced, only to collect dust in their  [...]

The Argument for Netbooks

Consumer Electronics, Gadgets, Laptops — April 25, 2009 at 6:56 pm | Comment Now
I've been a fan of netbooks since Asus came out with the first generation EeePC, the 701. The week it was released locally, I went to my favorite laptop store and bought myself one. An early Christmas gift, I told myself. And I've been hooked ever since. In the days before the EeePC, subnotebooks ruled the ultraportable market. But they were far different from netbooks as we know them today, especially when you look at the price factor. Subnotebooks used to cost upwards of $2,000. And that's just for the basic models from Toshiba and Fujitsu. Back then, you didn't even have WiFi connectivity! But today, you can snap up a netbook from a multitude of brands for as low as $250 or even less, with tie-ins with telecoms providers. Of course, the argument here is that while they are cheap, they're not as powerful as their full-fledged  [...]
