The latest buzz doing the rounds lately is that Verizon is planning to take over DirecTV to increase its marketshare. As it is after the CEO of DirecTv stepped down there was some talk about someone planning to take up the DirecTV. If this does happen then Verizon would be second only to DirecTV. All the talk started when the CEO of Verizon slightly hinted that for the fixed line business he would like to make video, a core company product. And like all of us know the best way to do this is to scrape up a satellite company and for all we know, the company could be DirecTV. However neither has DirecTV and nor has Verizon confirmed any of this. Though at the moment Verizon is sticking to its fiber optic service expansion(FiOS) which will surely take some more time because the fiber has to be run to every home. From Speed Limits To Volume Limits

General News — September 28, 2009 at 2:56 am
The European Commission or the EC is concerned about the health of the audiophiles because of prolonged usage of music players at high volume. This results in long–term hearing impairment and so the EC has decided it is high time to take some action. The European commission will now release new rules to all the media player manufacturers with a compulsory ‘safe exposure’ mode as a default setting. Although no plans are confirmed, researchers say there are still ways to overcome the limit if the user chooses to do so. This obviously is not good news for people who have to deal with audiophiles blasting music from leaky headsets. The Royal Institute for the Deaf has been campaigning against the use of music players that blast music. However, they prefer to put statutory and health warnings on the excessively loud music players instead of taking any drastic actions. A  [...]

General News — September 24, 2009 at 3:50 am
It’s not every day you come across a receiver that would throw you off balance by its sheer power. Yes, there are very affordable players in the market, who perform very well at moderate to slightly higher levels like the Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony and Onkyo, but they all lack the ability to translate their power on home theatre like the highly expensive models. The HT-RC 180 which was recently launched by Onkyo is different. It has a laundry list of features like an Ethernet portal that allows you to play music from you computer and can also bypass the computer to connect to internet radio stations like Pandora and rhapsody. There are 5 HDMI inputs present and it also can covert any video input to a 1080p via Faroudja DCDi Cinema. The overall performance of the RC-180 was mind- blowing; it was able to blast away with out any signs of discomfort. The 5.1 channel surround  [...]
