Puma and Sagem to bring the Puma phone
General News — August 24, 2010 at 1:05 amWhen we first heard about this, we thought it was just rumors but later it turned out to be right because a lot of people are talking about it. Sagem and Puma have now come together to make a cell phone. Do we really need a new player in an already crowded mobile phone market? These two certainly think so and hence they have given us a new product. Sagem is not a new manufacturer in the cell phone market, it has been there for a while and is a reliable name. We have had a couple of Sagem handsets in the labs for testing and they have all been really good. This new product is called the Puma phone and the best part about it is that there is a solar cell for phone charging. You also get a charge indicator for telling you how much of the battery has been charged. Green phones getting really popular in the market, some manufacturers are putting a green label on their products just to make money [...]
Logitech announces Wireless Illuminated K800 keyboard with proximity sensors
General News — August 19, 2010 at 4:12 amIt is strange that a lot of backlight keyboard have started coming up in the past few months; these gadgets were relatively rare some time ago. Logitech first gave us the wired illuminated keyboard and now they are here with the wireless version of it. The highlight of this product is the ambient light sensor which automatically adjusts the back lighting of the keys according to the ambience lighting. We don’t know if this is useful to you or not but we think this is more of a marketing gimmick. There are also proximity detectors which detect that your fingers are in a typing position and then get unlocked. Otherwise, pushing the buttons will have no effect.
You also get a microUSB cord which automatically refreshes the battery when it is on a low. The rated battery life of this Wireless Illuminated K800 is about ten hours provided it is used judiciously. [...]
A golf friendly camera from Exilim
General News — August 17, 2010 at 1:05 amGolf friendly camera? Now isn’t that a bit too much? No, say the golf enthusiasts; they now have plenty of gadgets made for exclusively for them. Golf is one of the most popular sports in the world and there is a lot of following for it around the world. There is hardly anyone who has not heard of Tiger Woods. Casio Exilim too is one of the big wigs in the camera world and they have had plenty of good cameras in the market. The digicam we are talking about is Exilim EX-FC160S, it has a ten megapixel backside illuminated sensor which must give good enough results. We have seen higher end cameras in our labs too but they all come at a premium. Digital cameras with low sensors are also available; the price is less but then the picture quality is not that good. There is not much to complain here anyways because you cannot have the world when you have limited amount of money to spend.
Free ZTE Salute from Verizon coming soon
General News — August 16, 2010 at 12:41 amThe unique thing about this phone is that the phone manufacturer hasn’t been associated with the Verizon before. We read about this phone on Wirefly.com; it is a vertical slider which has a 2.4 inches screen. You get a resolution of 240x320 pixels with support for 65,000 colors. There is no QWERTY keyboard which means that this phone is not meant for messaging freaks. All you get is an alpha numeric keypad. This is an entry level phone so don’t expect any bells and whistles in here. It is made just for people who want to make phone calls and send some text messages. There are some Verizon’s services on this phone like mobile e-mail, Bing search, subscription-based VZ Navigator for turn-by-turn directions, and Internet access.
There are also a few entry level features on the phone like Bluetooth and speakerphone. The phone has a camera as well [...]
Exemode DV5000UW – ugly looks but waterproof design
Camcorders, General News — August 14, 2010 at 1:07 amWhen ever I hear about a waterproof gadget, I automatically assume that it is going to be either ugly or thick. I don’t blame the makers of camcorders for this since there has to be a lot of covering around on the ports to prevent the water from going on. People who are value looks more will certainly be turned off but then you cannot have best of both worlds. I am yet to see a good waterproof or shockproof camera having good looks but it seems that will be a long wait.
I am not here to review about this product; I haven’t even got it in my labs yet. This is just a news piece that I got from my sources so I am blogging about it. The Exemode DV5000UW is the latest device to break in to the camcorder world. This device has 12 megapixel sensor that will surely take good quality photos. I have seen lots of camcorders before this having a 12 MP sensor and the quality is really good. You [...]
Researchers from Japan develop robot wheelchair which follows humans
General News — August 13, 2010 at 5:21 amJapanese have always impressed us with their repertoire of robots. They have been much ahead as compared to rest of the world in terms of robotic technology. We have seen a lot of robotic wheel chairs which navigate autonomously. But the researchers from Saitama University’s Human-Robot Interaction Center are now taking a bit approach to the robotic technology now. They have come up with a wheel chair which come with a laser sensor and camera and automatically follows a human that it is assigned too. What’s more intriguing is the fact that this wheel chair can also predict in which way the human is going to move from the shoulder movement.
This wheelchair is developed by the researchers but we don’t know if it is going to come in the commercial market or not. If they are available, this wheelchair could be useful in hospitals. The wheelchair carrying a patient can automatically [...]
Google Earth locates illegal pools, again
General News — August 9, 2010 at 1:05 amIt seems the government too is going the tech way in order to track down illegal activities. Under the table pools are being tracked down by the governments all over. This first happened in Greece when the economy collapsed last February. The Greek government went the tech way; used Google Earth and Google Maps for finding people who evaded taxes by not declaring a pool.
This idea is now used by the US authorities as well. The Riverhead town in Long Island has till now tracked down 250 unpermitted pools. They didn’t have to spend a lot of money with this either. The government have set their pockets jingling with $75,000 in fines. All this money is collected from people who never completed the required paperwork.
Everyone knows what Google Earth is; it has been around for a while and is very useful in tracking down any location. You can see the places on the entire globe through [...]

Latest Seesmic Desktop Supports Facebook
General News — October 5, 2009 at 3:00 amTwitter has a few applications that are able to update Facebook status messages but there is no clear market- dominator. However, with the all new version 0.6 of Seesmic Desktops, there might soon be one. Because what it does is, actively manages facebook activity on the ‘fan pages’ and personnel profiles and syncs them to the twitter accounts.
A statement release from Seesmic explained that with the Facebook page feature you get more control on how your business is marketed, listen to the fans opinions and tailor your network accordingly.
