Opera Mobile browser beta for Android – Better than the Mini
Google Android — January 30, 2011 at 12:05 am | Comment NowOpera software recently unveiled Opera Mobile 10.1 beta version and I got to play around with it for a few days before it was released. Android Phones already have Opera in the form of Opera Mini; it is a proxy server based on Java that deliver the Web pages fed through the servers of Opera. By contrast, Opera Mobile is an HTML standalone browser which can render, request and display the Web content independently of Opera servers.
The 2 apps look pretty identical from the front end and there is a license agreement that you have to accept before you browsing. Both Opera Mobile 10.1 beta and Opera Mini 5 support tabbed browsing and there is also the signature 9 entry speed dial which stores the favorite sites. Apart from that, there are features like long press context menus, password keeper, and Opera Link support. Also, there is support for syncing notes, [...]

Google Android — January 27, 2011 at 12:05 am | 3 CommentsAndroid is one of the worlds fastest growing OS for mobile phone and this is because it offers plenty of features. It takes the user experience to a new level. There is research being done for new features all the time. The earlier Android versions didn’t have sync support and hence people find it a bit difficult to transfer songs from laptop or PC to the Android phone. I got a few requests from readers asking me how to do it. I did some research on it, tested it on some old Android phones and here I am blogging about it. The procedure is really simple and you will be able to transfer the music in no time.
First you need to know about the various formats that Android phones support. The list includes AMR, AAC, MP3, AAC+, Ogg Vorbis, enhanced AAC+, and PCM/WAVE. If you have songs in any other format, you will first have to convert them to any of the aforementioned format for playing it [...]
Using your Android phone as a remote for YouTube video
Google Android — November 15, 2010 at 1:13 am | 1 CommentAndroid recently came with a really powerful and cool application called “You Tube Remote App” through which you can easily control YouTube video playback. You get functions like forward, volume, rewind, pause, play, and it also plays the previous or next video in the queue. This application basically creates virtual connection between the Android phone and YouTube Lean back. You can get the application in Android Market place, just go there and search for “You Tube Remote”. For getting started, you first need a Google account. From here, go to lean back and log in to the YouTube account from a PC.
Log on to YouTube Remote app from the Android phone and then search for the favorite videos or simply swipe right or left for going through the preset channels.

Google Instant is now available on Android 2.2
Google Android — November 14, 2010 at 12:05 am | Comment NowGoogle Instant is a next generation search concept where you don’t have reload Google search pages. It automatically suggests the terms of search and the results get refreshed each time you press any particular letter. This app has finally come in to mobile phones and I am glad to see this because it was previously limited to just the desktop version of Google. Now, both iOS and Android users can take advantage of it. For the latter, this search technology is supported only on the latest 2.2 or Froyo version.
Google Instant works pretty well in Wi-Fi or 3G enabled phones because it requires a very fast internet connection. It won’t work as well in mobile phones having EDGE or GPRS connectivity. The HTML5 and AJAX technology [...]
RingDroid for making ringtones on your Android device
Google Android — November 13, 2010 at 12:05 am | Comment NowPeople are very particular about the ringtones that they have on the phone as it speaks volumes about your personality. I have friends who keep hunting for that ‘perfect ringtone’. Also, some people like a song and want a portion of it as it has got the groove which tells people that you are an awesome guy. There are plenty of apps for this but the one I am going to talk about here is RingDroid. It is neat and adds great functionality to the process of ringtone selection. There is a WAV editor built in for cutting any part of the DRM free track. I am jotting down some basic steps to get the cool track on the phone. Putting the entire song as a ring tone is easy but getting a portion of it is tricky business.
First go to AppBrain or Market and get the RingDroid. Installation is pretty straightforward and once you are done with [...]

Google Android — November 12, 2010 at 12:06 am | Comment NowThe primary reason why I made a separate category for Android was that the OS is really growing fast in popularity and a lot of people have been sending me e-mails asking various queries about it. One guy asked me for some help in renaming files and I thought a lot of you might be facing this problem so here I am blogging about it. I got some people asking me about it which shows that there is a plenty of interest for this particular handset. Some people are finding it difficult to rename files on the phone. They’ve asked me if there is any separate software application to do it. Renaming a file is one of the most basic feature of a phone and it is a must have for customization. [...]
Samsung Galaxy S Froyo update is out, here are the new features
Google Android — November 11, 2010 at 12:05 am | Comment NowAndroid 2.2 is out and everyone is looking for Samsung Galaxy S Froyo update on their phones. New OS usually offers a slew of new features that aren’t there on the previous iteration and hence there is a lot to look forward in firmware upgrade. I am yet to see a new version of any OS having fewer features as compared to the previous one and it I probably won’t see it anytime soon. The new OS is also called Froyo and it first came on Samsung’s Galaxy S devices before rolling out for the rest of the world. It has now spread all over and all phones have been able to get it. I haven’t seen any major criticism of the new version which means it has been received well by the users. I have tested it thoroughly in my labs on various devices and have been pretty happy with what it has had to offer. Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is supposed to compete with Apple iPad will also have [...]
