Flip UltraHD – no still capture mode
Camcorders — on April 8, 2010 at 12:05 am | 8 CommentsThumbs Up:
FlipShare software for both Windows and Mac, high-quality video in its class, and shoots 720p HD video.
Thumbs Down:
No memory card slot for external storage; does not ship with HDMI cable; a bit more expensive.
The Whiz Kid Speaks:
The Flip Video UltraHD is a 0.92-megapixel high-definition 720p camcorder that has 1/4.5” CMOS optical sensor. It features 8GB internal flash memory, 2x digital zoom, auto-exposure, wide-screen video capture, and automatic white-balance.
The UltraHD has 2-inches LCD display and stereo microphone. The focus-free lens has F/2.4 aperture and its minimum focus range is 5ft. The additional features are In-camera movie editing, USB 2.0 compatibility, YouTube capture mode, Inbuilt speaker, Date/time stamp, Auto-power save, Night mode/Low Lux, and USB charging.
The connector set includes 1×HDMI output and 1×USB. The supported operating systems are Windows XP/Vista/7 and Apple Mac OSX 10.4 or later. The camcorder uses on two AA NiMH rechargeable batteries. Accessories supplied inside the package are battery, user manual, drivers & software disc, and wrist strap.
Razzle Dazzle:
The Flip Video UltraHD is 4.3 inches tall, 2.2 inches wide, and 1.2 inches deep, and weighs 6 ounces. Due to the AA-sized batteries, the UltraHD is heavier and bigger than the Flip Video MinoHD. It has matte and rubberized finish to provide comfortable grips. There are plastic trim on the sides.
Inside Dope:
The Pure Digital has launched two mini-camcorders – (1) Flip Video UltraHD that shoots 1280×720 (720p) high-definition video, and (2) the Ultra that records VGA (640×480) video. $174 priced the UltraHD has HDMI port and 2 inches anti-glare (transflective) display. It runs on two NiMH rechargeable batteries and can also be charged automatically on connecting at the USB port of the computer. However, the company does not provide any HDMI cable, while the Kodak Zx1 comes with HDMI cable and costs $50 less.

The Flip Video UltraHD can record 720p high-def video at 30fps (H.264 compressed). We are disappointed that the UltraHD does not have any memory card slot for external storage. The internal memory allows recording only 2 hours video. Therefore, it is better to keep a laptop with you when you are traveling and need more storage.
The included software provides an impressive way to transfer videos to your computer and then to upload on online sharing video Web sites including YouTube. You just have to press the red button to record videos and play button to playback them. The entry-level users will take benefit of simple video recording because there are no advanced or manual settings. We are disappointed that the UltraHD lacks still capture mode, but you can pull the still pictures from video using the inbuilt software.
We like that the supplied software support both Macintosh and Windows. It offers basic image edition options and allows importing the clips to other video-editing package such as Apple iMovie and Windows Movie Maker.
The UltraHD camcorder provides the saturated and sharp pictures in outdoors and continues to have good quality in low light. The audio recording is clear and loud. The overall video quality is better than the MinoHD. The video looked smoother and sharper with accurate colors while testing. Its low light performance was also improved.
Nitty Gritty:
If you need one of the best high-definition and easy camcorder, then go for – Flip Video Ultra HD. However, it is much heavier than the MinoHD due to AA batteries and lacks still capture mode. You can also check the other better choices – Creative Vado HD and the MinoHD.

A camcorder without external memory card slot is total a waste!
All these cheap camcorders are not at all worth buying. They don’t work after a month or two. Totally waste!
$175 for this crap? Are you kidding me!
What is wrong with Etech guys, why are they putting such diastrous articles on the site!
The only good thing is that it will work for windows and Mac. Not much worries for its drivers.
Only meant for entry level users and kids who may not have much knowledge about it.
As compared to its features and company, the amount is too high to spend on it.
You can get way better camcorders for this price. No one will waste mopney on this.
