Intel Signs Mobile Alliance With Motorola, Throws Support Behind Android

Intel Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Otellini made a surprising announcement  stating  that the chip manufacturing company had formed multi-device, multi-year strategic alliance with Motorola Mobility around tablets and smartphones. The alliance will fuse most recent Atom Z2460 processor of Intel; dubbed Medfield with Android based gadgets of Motorola. As per the report, Intel is undoubtedly throwing its support behind Android platform of Google that puts longtime partner Microsoft and Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7 operating systems in rearseat of new mobile plan of Intel. Speaking at Consumer Electronics Show, Mr. Otellini joined on stage with Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Motorola Mobility, Mr. Sanjay Jha and stated that Intel chips will offer wonderful platform for mobile innovation. Both firms will work together on services, software and hardware of Atom based Motorola gadgets.

Mr. Liu Jun, President and Senior Vice President at MIDH (Mobile Internet and Digital Home) division of Lenovo joined Mr. Otellini at Consumer Electronics Show for showcasing the Lenovo K800, an Android smartphone that runs on Atom Z2460 processor. Mr. Jun stated that Lenovo K800 will be offered only in China beginning in 2nd quarter; on the other hand, Mr. Otellini showcased Intel smartphone reference design featuring Atom Z2460 chip. The prototype was equipped with 4.3 inch LCD high-resolution touchscreen display, full 1080p high definition video playback, eight hours of talktime mode on 3G network, embedded McAfee security features and two cameras including 8.0-megapixel camera.
