Be In Control : Logitech Harmony One – Universal Remote Control

Ever wanted to know how it feels like to be totally “IN CONTROL” of all your fancy gadgets without ever having to fumble around with loads of cumbersome remote control devices and their cluttered buttons? Then the Logitech harmony one is here to answer all your prayers! The harmony one is the number one IR universal remote to date.

The logitech harmony one is basically a universal remote control which means one remote control that works for all your devices, be it a DVD player, TV, a home theatre system or even simple stuff like a radio or a music  player. Now you may be probably thinking – there are loads of other universal remotes (including Logitech’s previous versions) so what really makes this one really special? Simply because of the fact that, for the past one year or so, all the focus of the Logitech designers were exclusively on the harmony one and that explains why its predecessors are no real match for the harmony one .Now there’s another point worth noticing, all of Logitech’s previous models had numbers 720, 820, 1000 etc. but interestingly they decided to call this harmony ‘ONE’, as in this is The One, the supreme universal remote. And so long as you don’t mind paying the $250 or so it costs–or its lack of an RF option that would allow you to command components behind walls or doors–the Harmony One is arguably the best consumer remote control currently available.

The device is programmable both via Mac and Windows and its programming procedure is similar to its predecessors. The device also features motion detectors so that it turns on automatically as you pick it up shuts down if not used for quite some time. The lithium ion batteries are rechargeable (helps us save that extra buck) and comes with a charging dock (convenient! no more clumsy wires) it also seems that this time around, Logitech seems to have realized a flaw in its previous models that, with its earlier docking stations, the remote wouldn’t lock into its cradle as securely as it should have .With the ‘harmony one’, however, the remote really does sit securely in its dock. The harmony one also shines in its usability through great button arrangement and its touch oriented interface. but as they say ‘nothing is perfect’ ,the harmony one is a bit heavy on the pocket and more importantly ,there’s no Remote Frequency  (which means it can’t penetrate through obstructions like doors, walls etc.) so if you generally keep your devices in cupboards and cabinets, you may face some difficulty. But all in all the harmony one is a great gadget considering its sheer power and coolness quotient, I have no hesitation in giving this device a “TWO THUMBS UP!!!”
