Logitech Z-5 – USB connectivity speakers

They are black in color and the dimensions are similar to that of standard computers speaker set. They do have a bit of modern look though so don’t assume them to have those boring traditional looks. I lifted the speakers and immediately noticed they are a bit lighter as compared to the regular speakers. I don’t see the advantage of the light weight design; you cannot carry them with you because they are a bit tall.
The Logitech Z-5 is totally covered in cloth except for the top and bottom parts. They have an omnidirectional design which means you get the same sound output from all the sides of the speakers. This design is good if you are going to place the set in the center of your room while listening to music. But I really don’t think that it is of much use in computer speaker set since they always have their back against the wall. But, if you have a different computer set up in your room, you might be able to take full advantage of this.

Logitech Z-5’s drivers are visible through the cloth covering on the surface. There is a single driver on the front and the back of the speaker. I was looking for drivers on the sides too since this set boasts of omnidirectional sound but there no drivers there. However, I could hear plenty of sound when it placed my ears on the sides.
The Logitech Z-5 lives up to its omnidirectional tag, the quantity of the sound was the same when I flipped the speakers to the other side. You won’t notice the difference even if you turn the speakers around. There are a few connection ports on the right speakers back. You get a port for the right speaker and also a jack for plugging in any music player. I plugged in my iPod Touch and found that the sound quality was as good as that of the computer set.
Logitech Z-5 gives you a small remote for volume controls. Apart from that, there are standard music controls on the player. The unique thing about this set is that you have to plug it in to the USB port of your computer. The speaker set takes both the audio and power signal from the USB port.
