MTV Ventures Into The Iterative World With New Web Design

MTV has launched their all new web design on Wednesday. Although they have maintained their standard color scheme the new website aims to keep the spot-light on the content and less on it aesthetics. Along with the color–scheme, MTV have also held on to the navigation at the top of the site as well as the prominent promotional box toward the top of the page, which MTV calls “The Marquee“.

One of the major modification to the site comes in the form of a new module called ‘The Daily Fresh’ which basically a news feed and is placed just below The Marquee. The Daily Fresh will feature content MTV grabs from both its own pages and third-party sites.

MTV have also partnered with a video technology firm called Innovid which allows users to tag specific moments in videos, write a comment about the moment, and share that with friends on Facebook and Twitter. MTV also plans to offer Facebook Connect support in the near future.

There are also plans being made to create innovative ads. A special advertising event will be held on September 9 to celebrate the release of The Beatles: Rock Band on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Wii.

The new home page, looks like an iterative and uninteresting update. The top half of the site has barely any modification, while the bottom half has a few new features that a few users might find useful. If they don’t find them useful, MTV said that it’s willing to change. According to the company’s executives, the update is experimental and it plans to modify the site’s design based on usage patterns.

MTV certainly wants to become one of the many sites web surfers visit every day. It wants to be a media hub for entertainment and that can be a possibility. The response to the launch of the new website will be the deciding factor.
