Onkyo Launches The HT-RC180 Receiver

It’s not every day you come across a receiver that would throw you off balance by its sheer power. Yes, there are very affordable players in the market, who perform very well at moderate to slightly higher levels like the Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony and Onkyo, but they all lack the ability to translate their power on home theatre like the highly expensive models. The HT-RC 180 which was recently launched by Onkyo is different. It has a laundry list of features like an Ethernet portal that allows you to play music from you computer and can also bypass the computer to connect to internet radio stations like Pandora and rhapsody. There are 5 HDMI inputs present and it also can covert any video input to a 1080p via Faroudja DCDi Cinema. The overall performance of the RC-180 was mind- blowing; it was able to blast away with out any signs of discomfort. The 5.1 channel surround sound mixes were very well executed, that you may not need to use the HT-RC 180’s seven channels at all. When playing a CD in the stereo mode, the sound was equally good too. The bass lines were very distinct and the highs were crisp and well- defined too, and gave the overall sound a natural and live feel to it.

The Onkyo HT-RC 180 cannot beat the more expensive and high end receivers in terms of loudness, but it is the highest in its class. It is a good performer and I would definitely recommend one. The Onkyo HT-RC 180 is priced at $ 1049.
