The Whiz Kid Speaks:

There is not much tech about this phone. It is meant only for people who want to receive and accept calls. The phone is a CDMA tri-band phone, has features like Bluetooth, Intelligent Typing (T9), Speakerphone, USB. The included accessories on the phone is charger and battery. Resolution of the screen on the lid is 96X96 (65k colors) and the resolution of the inside of the phone screen is 128X160 (262k colors). Includes a VGA camera capable of 640X480 resolution photos.

Razzle Dazzle:

The phone is good in the looks department even if it is not so good in the features. There are two screens on the phone and the color is sleek black. The device is curved on the edges and rests quite easily on you hand. The phone is 3.54 inches long, 1.81 inches wide, 0.74 inch thick and weighing in at 2.82 ounces.

Inside Dope:

Cricket Captr is a basic phone. There is nothing in it that will make you proud of owning one. It is used only to making phone calls and text messages.

The phone has two screens, one on the lid and other inside. The screen on the lid has 65,000 colors and 96X96 resolution. It shows the date, time, battery life, signal strength, and photo caller ID, plus it doubles as a self-portrait viewfinder for the camera. You can adjust the backlighting, the incoming call screen, the clock format, and the wallpaper.

The inside screen of the phone is 262,000 colors and 128×160 pixels resolution screen. There is nothing great about the screen to write about, the small resolution speaks for itself. You can change features like backlight time, the menu style, the clock format the incoming call screen, the greeting banner, the contrast, and the brightness.

On the keypad there is a four way navigation key and a OK button in between them. The keys are placed well and are big enough so you won’t have to struggle for hits. Below the navigation button is the Call Answer and the Call End button, and CLR button between them. Other than these there are two buttons for calendar and speakerphone key. On the top there are two soft keys which go by whatever is displayed on the screen.

The phone book is 500 entry limited, each entry can take five phone numbers, a web URL and a memo. Then you can pair them up in groups, assign individual ring tone, pair them with a photo, etc. Other features worth mentioning are speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, a vibrate mode, a schedule, an alarm clock, a world clock, a memo pad, a calculator, a tip calculator, a stopwatch, and a unit converter. You also get voice commands, a voice recorder, Bluetooth, and a wireless Web browser.

The camera of the phone is a VGA which is quite bad. 640X480 is the highest resolution that it can achieve. Settings include a self-timer, three quality settings, six image effects, nine fun frames, and a mirror image mode. Photos are completely hopeless and look very blurred. Sometimes identifying objects in the photo can be challenging. Captr has a 64MB of internal memory for storing pictures.

We finally tested the phone for call quality and the call quality was good. But over callers got cut off sometimes and we had to call again. There is speaker phone available and the quality was OK.

Nitty Gritty:

This phone is meant for people who are not crazy about gadgets. Calling and text messages is all it can do. There is a built in camera but it is awful so it can’t be used to taking pictures. Purchase this phone if you want to gift your grandparents something on their birthday, this phone is not for you.
