Razzle Dazzle:
The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless is an office printer and just because it is an office printer it doesn’t mean that it cannot be attractive. Usually no one cares about the looks when it comes to office printers, they just want a device that can print copies fast and deliver high on the quality level
HP has made the printer attractive, just like HP does its products. The exteriors of the printer is all glossy which means it will attract a lot of finger prints so make sure you have a cleaning cloth around because it attracts a lot of finger prints. You may not like this if you are a hygiene freak.
Inside Dope:
HP has been known to making good printers. They have been around for quite a lot of time and they now make one of the best products in this class. HP makes printers of all types’ right from inkjet to laser and they have also made printers for all kinds of budgets. We get lots of HP printers to test in our test center and we don’t have much to complain about them when it comes to quality.
We got the HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless all-in-one inkjet printer in our centers for test. It is an all in one device which can do print, copy, scan and fax jobs for you. The printer has a 3.5 inch color touch screen display so you can control all your printing scanning jobs from the touch screen display on the screen. This LCD touch screen is one of the best that we have seen in touch screen genre of printers. The touch screen is quite responsive and re acted fast to our touches. You use the LCD printer to adjust the settings as well as to store your preferences.
There are also a free physical buttons around the printer so you can use it as well. An all LCD look in the printer would have made it more attractive but we guess there are some functions which are better with physical buttons.
When it comes to connectivity of the printer, say good bye cables because this printer supports wireless connectivity. You can connect this printer to multiple computers in a wireless network so that you don’t have to go running to a single computer when it comes to taking print outs. If your office doesn’t have wireless interface there is Ethernet jack/USB connectivity for you to use the printer with. But we recommend wireless for clutter free environment.
Below the printer is the 250 sheet for you to put your papers for printing. The sheets on the printer sits comfortably and with 250 sheet support you won’t be running around fetching more papers, because you can keep plenty of them at a time. On the top of the printer there is a 50 sheet auto feeder for scanning so that you can have a hands free experience or you can continue with other work while the printer is busy scanning.
Below the printer there is a media card reader with which you can directly put in your cards and the printers will read and print from them. This is great for photo printing where you can put a card from camera in to the printer and browse through the collection from the LCD and take the copies that you want.
We were disappointed to find that the printer doesn’t support Bluetooth. Bluetooth connectivity means that you can take print outs from a wireless device such as a mobile phone. You will miss this function because you will have to physically take out the card from the cell phone and put it in the printer before the printer starts taking copies.
The ink cartridges of the printer are a four cartridge set up, the black cartridge being the biggest. The printer is good when it comes to cartridge management because you don’t have to refill the entire unit, just refill the cartridge that runs out.
So let’s get down to business, what about the print quality and speed? This printer is ahead of its times, it gave us output of 11 pages per minute. This is better than what other printers can churn out. HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless is a great printer if you want to get work done fast and hate to wait. This speed is in fact double the speed of the second placed competitor in the tests that we made.
We next tested the printer for print out quality. The print quality is great when it comes to text or presentations. Photo quality was also far more superior than any of the printers we have seen.
Nitty Gritty:
Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless from the stables of HP is by far the best printers that we have tested. It has great quality for print outs, faster print out speeds and the photo quality is awesome. We would recommend this printer for office usages even if it has a couple of issues like no Bluetooth connectivity or lack of fax buttons for auto dialing.
