A simple and inexpensive phone from the stables of mobile phone giant Nokia.

Sum and Substance:

Thumbs Up:

Good camera, spacious phone book, good music quality and FM.

Thumbs Down:

Doesn’t have advanced features, this phone is not for people who need phone as a computer.

Inside the Trunk:

Technology – GSM
Band – GSM 850/900/1800/1900 Quad band
Phone Design- Clamshell
Caller ID- Yes
Additional Features- FM, Camera, Music Player, Speakerphone, etc.

The Whiz Kid Speaks:

Razzle Dazzle:

Nokia 3711 is a neat clamshell phone which doesn’t have too much to drool about. There are 2 screens, one on the lid and other inside, which is the screen for the phone. Inside of the phone is a pleasing and spacious key pad with which one can type quite easily.

Inside Dope:

A Nokia 3711? A phone by Nokia in 3xxx family? Now those days are dead right? Because Nokia 3xxx class of phones became extinct in the market more than five to six years ago. So what is this phone doing here now? This is what we were left thinking when we got this phone for testing. Later, we thought that maybe Nokia was cleaning up their closets by trying to sell old phones to clear up their stocks.

Nokia cell phone

This phone is not meant for the gadget freak. It is meant for older generations who have retired and don’t need a costly phone. They would like this phone because it has cheap and can do basic functions like calling. Or this phone is for the people who aren’t crazy about phones and need one only for phone calls and text messages.

The phone is pretty basic with some hi-end features thrown here and there with a possibility to lure younger generation also. The phone is a clamshell model and the display on the lid shows you time and nothing else.

On the inside we were surprised to see a 320X240 resolution display. A basic phone doesn’t have a big resolution display. A bigger resolution will fit more in the same screen and hence it is always preferable to have a hi-res phone. The display is 2.2 inch big and supports 16.7 million colors. You can alter the wallpaper, display theme, and font size.

Nokia is known to make phones with good keypads and this one too follows the suit. The key pad is simple and buttons are easy to press. There is a four way navigator button above the numeric keypad and there are call and call end buttons around. Two more keys above the call and call end button are to be used according to the options on the screen. The keyboard was a joy to use and we were happy to see the spacious buttons in these times where there are cramped QWERTY keypads on smart phones.

The phone has a spacious 2000 entry contact book and single entry can store five numbers, a URL, email, address, formal name, nick name, company name, birth day and job title, which makes up a typical Nokia contact book. There are 21 ring tones where in you can associate a person with a different ring tone. Associating photos is also available.

Speaking of photos brings us to the camera. The 2 MP camera of the phone is quite good and is capable of six resolutions the highest being 1600X1200. We don’t expect much from a 2 MP camera but the photo quality was good. Not that it knocked us down from our chairs, but it was better than what a 2 MP camera is expected to deliver. Other options include a self-timer, three white-balance modes, a 4x zoom, and five color effects. There is no flash or mirror for the camera.

Music player is integrated in the Nokia 3711 which is good at playing music it has equalizer and shuffle and repeat modes. FM radio is also integrated. Sound quality was good. With the WAP browser you can download stuff from the internet.

We also tested the phone for call quality and the results were quite impressive. There were no distortions or cracking of voice over phone. Speakerphone is included and that too was good. The phone has integrated Bluetooth, so you can use a wireless headset.

Nitty Gritty:

This is a good inexpensive phone, but don’t expect to find many features here. It is for people who call and text messages and nothing else. We were also impressed by the simplicity of the phone; these days’ phones have such complicated applications that it takes quite a while to master them.

Here are my impressions about Nokia 3711 phone:-
The phone of my dreams, simple handset offers everything we have come to expect from Nokia , stylish, convenience and usability. Well I m not too tech savvy so for me simple features that serve my phone needs is all what I need. Flip design with brown colour gives it a elegant feel. As with nokia all phones the keypad is quite spacious, same with it, quite comfortable while typing. All in all im satisfied with its performance.
