Sum ‘n’ Substance:

Thumbs up: A sleek, elegant and simple design; user-friendly interface; and nice podcast support; superb video-playback and brilliant battery-life.

Thumbs Down: The Equalizer has many settings but most are indistinguishable; older video accessories may not be compatible; older computers may not support the latest itunes version.

Inside the trunk: 2.5-inch color LCD with LED backlight measured diagonally; 320-by-240 pixel resolution at 163 pixels/inch; 160GB hard drive; Can store up to 40,000 songs and 200 hours of video in 128-Kbps AAC format and up to 25,000 iPod-viewable photos; it stores data using the USB hard drive; Audio formats it supports: AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV ; a user-configurable maximum volume limit; in built rechargeable lithium-ion battery; up to 36 hours of music playback time when fully charged; up to 6 hours of video playback time when fully charged.

The Whiz-Kid speaks: If you are able to resist the advances in the ipod touch or the ipod nano and fancy a much basic looking ipod but functions as good as they do but with a large storage capacity then, the ipod classic has to be on your list.

Razzle- Dazzle: There isn’t much to say about the design of the ipod classic, because the name says it all, it looks almost like it predecessor who was launched in 2001. although, it is more sleek, refined and lighter than the older ones, butt obviously. It is available in two colours: silver and black. Both have their charm but I like the black one better. It measures a height of 4.1 inches; width of 2.4 inches and a depth of 0.41 inch. The Classic weighs in at 4.9 ounces, so all these stats mean that it can fit in your pocket with ease.

Inside dope:
The 3rd generation ipod fits a massive 160GB hard disk. The screen is molded out of plastic, making it the only iPod that hasn’t used the scratch-resistant glass screen yet. It also is the only one to use the split screen menu, with  the menu function on the left and an image matching to the selection to the right.

Like the previous ipods, the Classic also features the Genius playlist where it creates an instant 25-song playlists based on the musical characteristics of a single song. The results are fun, for most of the time, provided that you have a large playlist (which you should be having, if you’re buying a  160GB ipod).

The iPod Classic supports H.264 or MPEG-4 video in MOV, MP4, or M4V file formats, with a maximum resolution of 640×480 at as much as 30 frames per second. The audio file format support remains unchanged. The iPod Classic allows you to add and delete music and video files manually. but with 160GB of storage, most users will prefer to automatically sync their entire media library. The Classic also doubles as a USB hard drive in a jiffy.

The sound quality was crisp and clear. There were more than 20 equalizer presets, but most of them were useless because they were indistinguishable. The classic had very good fidelity, enough to keep most users happy.

The video playback was impressive too, the 2.5-inch color LCD with its 320 x 240 pixel resolution was easy on the eyes. Videos were vivid and displayed natural looking colours.

Apple has enhanced the battery life of the classic to 36 hours of music playback and 6 hours of video playback, another reason to fork out your cash.
And finally, the interaction between the itunes and the ipod. The features are the same, and they both work smoothly. If you are new to itunes, I’d  suggest, download the itunes format first to familiarize yourself first. There are movies and music available on the itunes online store for purchase.

Nitty- gritty: Apple is doing what it does best, and the 160GB classic is nothing short of it. It packs in a good feature list and is really worth your money.

Am I gonna throw out my existing accessories & comp for new ipod? If they made it so god damn better & tempting, then they could have also ensured that its compatible. What am I gonna do?
