Sum ‘n’ Substance:

Thumbs up: Good value for money; built to last; accelerated performance for its class; 10 POWER ZOOM.

Thumbs down: The user- guide could have provided more details on certain functions; LCD is small; some pictures were noisy.

Inside the trunk: Dimensions (WHD) 4.2 x 2.9 x 1.4 inches Weight (with battery and media) 9.6 ounces Megapixels, image sensor size, type 10 megapixels, 1/2.3-inch CCD LCD size, resolution/viewfinder 2.5-inch LCD, 230K dots/none; Optical zoom: 10 x.

The Whiz-kid speaks: Not many people realize what Kodak has just done, with the launch of the EasyShare Z915 and its feature-to-price ratio to die for, have set the bar right at the top of the mountain. Let’s take a look at it in depth.

Razzle-dazzle: The EasyShare Z915 is molded out of metal and plastic. It is not really big in size and slip easily in a big pant pocket.

The Z915 is available in 3 different color combinations like blue/black, red/black, and matte black/black. Its build quality gives you the feeling that you’ve got what you’ve paid for.

Inside Dope:

The star in the Z915 is definitely the image-stabilized 10x zoom lens. It let me capture distant objects easily. The pictures were pretty decent although, the lens was not especially wide or fast and the image stabilization feature ensured my images would be clear and sharp. This camera also changes the shooting mode automatically to suit your shot.

The EasyShare Z915 can be operated in both automatic and manual mode hence; it keeps all the users happy.

The Z915 packs in features such as exposure bracketing, color effects, and sharpness adjustments 17 scene modes and Kodak’s Smart Capture mode that combines its Intelligent scene detection, Intelligent capture control, and Intelligent image processing. It’s a reliable mode if you think you–or someone else—might screw-up a good shot.

The start-up to the first shot takes 1.7 seconds and the time between shots is a fast 1.1 seconds and adding the flash, only another second, that’s bloody quick for a megazoom camera. The Z915 has a three-shot burst mode, too, and it’s capable of 1.6 frames per second.

Image quality was very good for the class it’s placed in. There was some noise, which is visible in photos viewed at 100 percent at all ISO sensitivities. Exposure was very good and colors, while not accurate, are very vivid and should satisfy most of the users.

Lastly, the Z915 is powered by AA-size batteries, so get yourself the rechargeable batteries and double the amount of shots.

Nitty- gritty: Kodak’s cameras are more than capable of capturing HD-quality movies, this is not one of them. You do get good VGA-quality video capture, though, and the zoom lens works while you’re recording but what you get is a great camera with good value for money. Kudos to Kodak.
