Sum ‘n’ Substance:

Thumbs up: Outstanding performance; built in speakers; superb design; loads of connection features.

Thumbs down: Images lacked sharpness in few scenes; the dark levels are slightly higher than needed.

Inside the trunk: 23 inch widescreen (diagonal) LCD/ TFT  active matrix; resolution: 1920 x 1080; sRGB colour support; HDMI signal input; Analog Video Signal RGB ,  Component video ; ATSC Digital TV Tuner; Required Voltage :AC 120/230 V.

The whiz- kid speaks: LG have built a dual purpose 23-inch widescreen TV that plays all the high –definition movies as well as performs all the functions for a monitor, it also provides a remote control. Let’s delve deeper into what LG has to offer with the Flatron M237WD.

Razzle- dazzle: The flatron looks like it’s draped in glossy black ink. The screen in slightly convex and measures about three inches in depth. At the bottom there are many holes for the hidden in built speakers. a prominent reddish outline highlights the base. The egg-shaped stand, reminded me of the Samsung synmaster P2370, which also had a similar stand and also nodded like it, but unlike the P2370 there was no fear of it losing its balance. Towards the lower right, there is blue LED to indicate the power is on.

Inside dope:
As far as ergonomics are concerned the Flatron does not pivot, nor does it adjust the height, all it offers is the ability to bend backwards slightly, close to 20 degrees. The onscreen dippy button array consists of seven button all located above the head phone jack. They include the menu, volume up and down; power; channel up and down; enter and input. The menu function includes the channel, Picture, Audio, Time, Option, and Lock. The picture option had features to adjust the backlight, contrast, colour temperature and brightness. the Audio features for the in built speakers include a Tru-Surround which emulates a 5.1 sound system or more than that as well as a number of presets for music and movies. The resolution of the Flatron was 1920×1080 pixels with a response time of 5ms and an aspect ratio of 16:9. the performance of the Flatron. Some of the connection options offered by LG include two HDMI ports more than the P2370HD, Component, DVI, VGA, Composite, S-Video, and a coaxial connection for an antenna or cable. There also is a port for normal audio and a digital audio out option. Now over to the performance, the LG flatron performed extremely well, the colours were well- displayed, natural-looking and bright. The blacks were deeper than Samsungs and sometimes lacked the precision to detail to perceive darker scenes. To obtain the optimal view sit slightly inline with the monitor, where you may notice the intended colours and gamma correction. The brilliance in colours was due to the TN panels used.  The speaker performed pretty well too, on maxing out the volume knob, there were no distortions whatsoever, although the P2370 might be a little louder than it. On the efficiency front, the Flatron sucked 49.12 watts of power in operational mode and 2.39 watts in stand- by mode, slightly more than the Samsung P2370. using the Flatron would cost you around $16.31 a year.

The LG Flatron M237WDNitty-gritty: The bottom line is if features are more important to you, and you want good quality images, go straight ahead and get the Flatron. So what if it running it costs $2 more than the Samsung, it works absolutely fine loaded with plenty of features and should most certainly not be a deal- breaker. The LG Flatron M237WD is priced between $264.95 -$ 349.97.
