The Sum ‘n’ substance:

Thumbs up: Exhibits deep blacks and precise details in shadows; the colours are bright and vivid; saturation was excellent; power efficient; access to select Internet services is provided by VieraCast; good value for money.

Thumbs down: Restricted light output in THX mode; lousy pictures controls; less efficient than LCD televisions.

Inside the trunk: 54.1 inch  Diagonal Size Widescreen; plasma technology; Resolution: 1920 x 1080 ; Display Format 1080p (Full HD); HDMI , S-Video , Component , Composite Video Interface;  Image Aspect Ratio 16:9; Dynamic Contrast Ratio 2000000:1; Total Pixels 2,073,600; Progressive scanning; NTSC analog tuner; QAM and ATSC Digital TV Tuner; stereo sound output; infrared remote control; AC 120V power  supply.

The whiz kid speaks: Panasonic has created a massive TV for those who like it large, called the TC-P54G10. it is one massive plasma TV with picture quality and features that more or less resemble its smaller versions.

Razzle dazzle: The G10 has been given a much refined look, although it does not feature the made-out-of single sheet of glass look, it sports a much thinner waistline and is draped in a beautiful black sheet, with silver highlights. The speakers are well-hidden in the stunning casing of the TV and the old rectangular stand has been revamped to a circular one. However, the stand is fixed, that is, it does not pivot. The remote control was well organized, the texture of the button, their size and colour help in differentiation. There is no back light for the buttons, however. The main menu has a distinct yellow and blue colour scheme, making it much easier to read. Browsing through the menu system is the same as the previous models.

Inside dope:
The stand out features of the G10 has to be the Viera cast and THX Display Certification. In the Viera cast mode, you are granted access to videos from Youtube, stock markets, headlines, weather reports and images on your Picasa account. You can also access the Amazon video on demand and other such pay per view in high definition with a free preview of the content before shelling out money on the video.

In the THX Display Certification mode the picture quality in terms of colour and shadow precision of the G10 is improved to an extent. There is downside to the THX display, when you are in this mode all the adjustments are disabled, all other modes are adjustable. Theses adjustments include the standard, brightness, contrast and colour. The G10 has a refresh rate of 48Hz, which does cause a slight amount of flicker. other new adjustment features are colour temperature with five presets and aspect ratio adjustments also with five options that includes a zoom mode. As far as connectivity and storage are concerned, the G10 does well. The G10 accepts SD cards that help in playback and there are a total of 3 HDMI inputs with AV input for composite and S-video and an antenna. On the performance front, the G10 displayed very natural colours to the utter most precision possible. In certain scenes however, you may notice a slight yellowish green tinge, depending on how you have set your colour temperature. The best part of the image quality was the deep blacks and the very highly detailed shadows. It did not flinch between scenes and had not signed of the bluish tinge seen on other screens. The video processing was pretty decent, the blu ray movies were at an above average level while, and the standard definition movies lacked sharpness. The noise reduction was at its best. When connected to a PC the images were resolved naturally without any glitches. Now over to the power consumption, the G10 uses an AC120 supply and sucks in 282.85 watts in power on mode and 0.13 watts in stand by. That would cost you up to $ 61.03 not bad for a 54 inch plasma TV.

Nitty gritty:
The Panasonic is great buy; it is sleek and stylish and offers a good amount of features backed up with an amazing picture quality. It even attempts to be eco-friendly too. The G10 will come in around $1,538- $2,399.99
