Review Of The Sony VAIO W111XX Netbook

Sum ‘n’ Substance:

Thumbs up:The high resolution display, sturdy construction, beautifully crafted by Sony.

Thumbs down:Very thirsty i.e. battery life is bad, an additional $100 bucks for a better display, noisy fan.

Inside the trunk :P rocessor: Intel Atom (1.66 GHz); RAM installed: 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM; Hard drive size: 160 GB; Intel GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0, built-in devices such as Bluetooth antenna, Wireless LAN antenna.

The Whiz-kid speaks:Sony has been around the block for quite sometime now, and the truth is that Sony has been associated with glamour like milk & coffee. So while they have gadgets with eye-popping design & in different colours, their price tags are equally shocking too. The new VAIO W111XX is no exception either. Let’s check out what it has got to offer.

Razzle-dazzle:The design of the VAIO W111XX is simple yet unique. The external casing has a stylish matte surface which has colour variants: white, brown, pink and surprisingly not in black. It weighs in at 2.6 pounds and measures 10.5 x 7.1 x 1.3 inches. The keypad has isolated keys à la apple computers. The memory card slots are located on the front, while the other ports and jacks are located on the side.

The Sony VAIO W111XX Netbook

Inside dope:

The Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/T netbook runs on Windows XP. It functions like any of the notebooks that are out on the market and handles most of the basic computing tasks pretty well. One feature that makes it stand apart is the VAIO Multimedia Streaming software that enables data stream between DLNA-enabled appliances (like your PC or PS 3). Moving over to its battery life, the Sony Vaio W was pitiful, it ran for 2 hours and 19 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, using the included three-cell battery. That’s really disappointing for a Netbook, especially when these systems designed for on-the-road use.

Nitty-gritty:While having the glamorous brand name Sony the VAIO W is definitely not the slimmest or the lightest netbook on the market, neither does it outperform it competitors and at $100 extra compared to the competing netbooks around, it isn’t cheap either. If you are fashion maniac with money you can afford to blow, then you can go right ahead, otherwise you’re just a nut-job who needs tweaking. Because it’s just like any other netbook in better branded clothing at the end of the day which, I repeat, is not cheap.

Hey man, you have to check a few things out. HP mini 5101 would do much better to Sony vaio W 111 XX. what kinda netbook is that, guys?

Vaio W has the best screen and resolution of ANY netbook. Keyboard and pad are excellent once you get used to it. Battery life aint brilliant, but depending on HOW you use your netbook (ie mostly at a desk) then the micro-power-pack will keep you fully charged.

Yes, one massive downside: the fan is incredibly noisy. So bad in fact that for this reason alone you might want to avoid it until SONY releases v2. I am considering returning mine. My other notebook is a dead-silent-macbook. This underpowered (Atom) is making so much noise it can wake a sleeping baby.
