Review Of Toshiba Satellite T135-S1310 Laptop
Laptops — on October 31, 2009 at 1:30 am | 3 CommentsA beautiful thin-and-light that is light on the wallet too. Toshiba one-ups itself introducing the T135-S1310, the bigger brother of the well packaged T135-1300. SO if you are browsing the market for a budget thin and light with good performance, read on, this might just make up your mind!
Sum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:
The T135-S1310 is well priced at around $700. The system comes packaged with Windows 7 preinstalled. The Dual-Core ultra-low voltage processor works well with the system.
Thumbs Down:
The keyboard felt a bit tacky with its flat keys. The speakers are tinny and sound weak (this is a common drawback on these thin and light laptops). The touch pad felt small, and surprisingly the buttons are bigger than the pad itself.
Inside The Trunk:
The new T135-S1310 is based on the Mobile Intel GM45 Express chipset and powered by the new dual-core ultralow voltage 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU4100 processor. With 4 GBs of DDR3 RAM at 1066MHz, this notebook has the potential to be a great performer. The T135-S1310 also comes with a collection of ports like the HDMI, USBs and features like the Bluetooth. What is one of the biggest turn-ons is that it comes prepackaged with the spanking new Windows 7. Touted to be the best version of Windows yet, you will be one of the first ones to have a system that is built for it. As expected this baby is pretty light, weighing only about 4.5 pounds including charger. The T1135-S1310 also offers you a 320 GB hard driver in comparison to the 250 Gb on T135-S1300. The nice and vibrant screen is big enough at 13.3 inches.
The Whiz Kid Speaks:
Toshiba has been doing well throughout the whole laptop spectrum, ranging from the Qosmio series of high-performance workhorses to these small Satellites. The T135-S1310 is a nice little addition in the Satellite series of laptops. For a nice thin-and-light notebook, the T135-S1310 is surprisingly a sprightly performer. With a good battery life to boast, and a variety of features, the T135-S1310 is a beautiful well packaged notebook. For a $100 difference over the smaller sibling the T135-S1300, you get a host of upgrades, the most important being the processor. The T135-S1300 has a single core processor and is slow compared to the competition, but the Dual-core baby on T135-S1310 boosts it to a head of the pack.
Razzle Dazzle:
You can own a T135-S1310 in three color variants, them being Red, White Fusion (for an extra $10) or the simple black. Loaded with Windows 7 and prancing on a Dual-Core processor, this class leading thin-and-light laptop has been well positioned in the market. Attractive pricing is one of the major crowd pulling factors. The T135-S1310 offers you 4 GB of DDr3 Ram, while most of the competition offers around 3Gbs. The Application handling of the T135-S1310 is also better than most of the pack and out test bench quite liked the response timings and load handling capabilities. One of the other plus points is the amazing battery life, which lasted us about six hours. A drawback of this system is the absence of the optical drive which most of the competitors are offering at the price that Toshiba is quoting. It becomes cumbersome to lug an external optical drive. Toshiba also gives you an extra USB port for sleep and charge.

Inside Dope:
Toshiba had earlier launched the T135-S1300, although it does not match up to the competition. The upgrade to the S1310 was a wise move for Toshiba, and for you if you are looking for a budget thin and light without compromising much on the performance. The launch of the S1310 has been in perfect timing with the launch of the new Windows 7. Windows 7 has been well accepted and the market has been responding well to the new Windows. Mind you, this is the same market that completely shot down the fiasco called the Windows Vista. The uni-button for the touchpad may be a bother for some. 4GB of DDR3 RAM is most of the programs that you’d use on your thin and light. The speakers are quite tinny and I’d recommend that you buy yourself a nice pair of headsets when u are buying this laptop. There are almost no complaints about this well packaged product.
Nitty Gritty:
This little wonder will be quite a hit with the students and ladies. Light enough to carry in your backpack without realizing its there, and with a battery life that can last you through six hours, that’s about three movies if you are in the mood for them! With the T135-S1310, Toshiba has finely tuned the art of making thin-and light laptops! Before you decide to buy this laptop, also consider that you have to bear with the tinny speakers, and battle with the tiny touchpad. Agreed, that you can attach earphones and mouse. You may also have to buy an external optical drive. If you are looking for one, please go in for the T135-S1310 and not the T135-S1300.

Great review! Good to see someone point out an occasional negative about a new product especially when it is a Toshiba, since the Toshiba brand is near the top when it comes to mini notebooks. A word of caution, spring for the Windows 7 upgrade since the starter edition is missing more than you may think. Would be a shame to waste a great new OS with the Windows 7 Starter Edition that most are packaging with new systems to keep the price down. http://www.smalllaptopcomputers.org/be-aware-windows-7-starter-edition-and-netbooks/

I have always found the Toshiba systems to be of high quality. Right now, I am a fan of ASUS but this Toshiba system seems like a good deal for all that you get!
