Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito- Sprint – Most Comfortable QWERTY Keyboard Ever
Cell Phones — on December 21, 2009 at 4:56 am | 8 CommentsSum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:
Great QWERTY keyboard, good call quality.
Thumbs Down:
Bad speaker phone quality, a low 2.0 MP camera, music quality could have been better, external display is tiny and touch pad is slippery.
Inside the Trunk:
Technology: CDMA2000 1X
Band: CDMA2000 1X 1900/800
Phone design: Folder type
Caller ID: Yes
Other features: Bluetooth, music player, camera, etc.
The Whiz Kid Speaks:
The internal display of the Incognito is 2.6 inch TFT LCD screen which gives a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Display languages are Spanish and English. On the exteriors there is a tiny OLED monochrome display.
The phone has a 2.5 mm head phone jack. The phone comes with 60 MB internal memory, 1 GB memory card and the phone can take up to 16 GB of cards. 840 mAh battery of the phone gives a rated talk time of 307 minutes.
The phone has a 2.0 mega pixel camera at the back which gives maximum resolution of 1600X1200. Other features include polyphonic ringer, vibrating alert, voice dialing, call timer, conference call capability, voice recorder, caller id, speakerphone.
Razzle Dazzle:
The Incognito has a flip book desi
gn that we have seen in Pantech phone earlier and we are not great fans of this design of the phone. The phone is 3.7 inches tall, 0.7 inch thick, 2.2 inches wide and weighs about 4.3 ounces which is a bit heavy on the pocket. The exterior of the phone is a touch screen magnet and we really didn’t like the way our fingerprints were showing on the lid of the phone. You will have to wipe the phone with a clean cloth repeatedly if you want the device to remain spotless. We really liked the way the 2 halves of the phone were positioned, they don’t open at full 180 degrees and when you keep the phone on a surface for typing, it feels comfortable.
Inside Dope:
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito from Sprint shares a lot of similarities with Pantech Impact by AT&T like the tiny display and the touch keypads. Both the phones have the same compass box design, and apart from that they have 2 mega pixel cameras, 3G, full QWERTY keyboards, etc. But this phone is a bit different when it comes to performance, we found that this product from Sanyo, has low speaker phone quality and the exterior is a bit more sturdy.
You will think that the Incognito has nothing on the outside but when you flick the tiny switch on the sides of the phone; you will get an array of buttons that you normally see in a typical numeric keypad of a phone. These keys are touch sensitive and will give haptic feed back when you press them. The keys are also adequately placed away from each other so there are not much mishits but sometimes the touch sensitive keys do feel a bit slippery.
The mono chrome display isn’t the best feature of the Incognito. We would have liked a color display as it would show photo caller ID on the lid. The numeric keypad and the tiny screen on the outside let you use few menu options.
On the sides of the Incognito there is a Micro-USB charger port, microSD card slot, volume rocker and voice dialing control. The volume rocker is tiny and will make you wish you had smaller fingers. There is also a 2.5 mm head phone jack on the sides of the phone. We would have liked a 3.5 mm phone jack which would let us plug in our own set of headphones.
The internal display is 2.6 inches big and gives resolution of 320X240 pixels or 262,000 colors. The display is vibrant and bright with sharp colors, the photos and videos are clear and so is the text. However, we feel the display resolution could have been more 320X240 is now old and feels a bit cramped. On the internal display you can change backlighting time and brightness of the display. We felt the font size on both the displays a bit small.
You can personalize the Incognito with wallpapers, greetings, screen savers and clock styles. You can get ring tones and more options for customization from the WAP 2.0 browser.
Between the display screen and the QWERTY keyboard there are two soft keys which are placed exactly below the commands on the screen so you won’t get confused. A lot of times, in such phones we find that these soft keys are there at the ends of the board and sometimes they are even below the keyboard. We think this placement is the best and every manufacturer should follow the suit when making such phones. The board has three rows of keys, the elevation and spaciousness makes it one of the best keyboards we have seen to date. The lid of the phone doesn’t open up to full 180 degrees and when you keep the phone on the surface typing is quite comfortable.
There is a 600 entry limited phone book which we thought was a bit small. All phones come up with 1000 or unlimited phone book entries. A single entry can take e-mail address, postal address, URL, instant messaging ID, notes and finally multiple phone numbers. You can make groups and put your friends in them. Other than this, the features that you see the most like group ring tone, custom ring tone for individual and pairing up the photos with contacts is supported. Just remember that the external display can’t be used for photo id.
Other important features on the Incognito include alarm clock, multimedia and threaded text messaging, calculator, calendar, speakerphone, countdown timer, world clock and stopwatch.
We were disappointed to see a 2.0 MP camera behind the Incognito. A 2 MP camera is now outdated and we would have liked to see at least 3.2 camera on such mid range phones. This camera offers few fun frames, digital zoom, self timer, multi shot mode, scene modes and three shutter sounds.
The camera also lets you shoot videos and the settings are quite similar to that of still camera. You get two options of resolutions like 128×96 and 176×144. You cannot shoot videos more than 35 when in MMS mode.
For storing photos and videos only 60 MB internal memory with a 1 GB card. The Incognito can take memory cards up to 16 GB. Photo quality is average and so is the quality of the video from the phone.
The Incognito comes with three games – The Price is Right, Sonic the Hedgehog and Uno which are all demo and you will have to pay a fee for full versions. Other features include Bluetooth with stereo profile, instant messaging, voice recorder, speaker-independent voice commands and dialing, PC syncing and USB mass storage. The phone has connectivity options for POP3 and IMAP to sync your inbox with the phone. The phone also gives you applications like Nascar Cup Mobile, Google Search, Social Zone, Sprint NFL Mobile Live, etc. and access to social networking sites like Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.
When tested for call quality, the phone gave out decent results. There was no interference and we could hear the voice of the other party quite clearly. Our friends could also clearly hear what we were saying while on the phone. Listening to your friends in noisy environments will be a struggle since the volume level is low. Speaker phone quality was bad and sound distorted even at low volume level you can push the volume of the speaker phone up and you will be surprised at how loud it can get. Bluetooth headset calls were good but that again depends on what headset you are using.
The 840 mAh battery of the Incognito gives talk time of 5.1 hours but we found it was a bit less in our test centers.
Nitty Gritty:
Sanyo SCP-6760 Incognito makes a good messaging phone, pick this one up for the great QWERTY keyboard and the ergonomic design. You don’t need to look any further if you are a businessman and are looking for good messaging phone. Youth will however be turned off by the 2 MP camera and poor music quality.

Sanyo? Never heard of this company in Mobile phones? Is it new?
This phone is made as one of the Nokia communicators but with a touch effect! this is gonna be cool but will it be able to beat Nokia?
I hav a strong doubt that whether this phone will survive where people goes for brands and not features! they all believe good brand good phone! which I am against.
I always love to do experiments! This company is new in the market so would love to go for it! who knows whats going to happen
I am in love with the touch display! it looks so cool and stylish!!
Best Phone I have owned for the money! I dont know what they are talking about when they say the music quality is poor…maybe they should try downloading a better MP3…the speaker is loud and sounds fine to me! The camera…well who cares it works fine for me…and If i want a better quality picture I use an actual camera. They are right about finger prints on the phone but they wipe right off..and you can also get a case with plastic cover if it bothers you that much. all in all I gove the phone a 9 out of 10!
