Sea-gate has launched a monumental hard disk with a storage capacity of  2TB and a cache memory of 64 Mb. Called the barracuda XT, this monster hard disk is aimed at hard-core gamers and multi-media developers and features a 6GB/sec SATA hard disk. Most 2tb models manage speeds up to 5400- 5900 rpm on an average but the XT does a 7200 rpm because it is built on a 4-disk platform. To make things  better, the XT is beefed up with a cache memory of 64 mb and a high- performance 6gb/sec interface.

This hard-disk is all set to raise the bar for all high- performance desktops. Aseagate representative sated that the company wanted to take advantage of 6GB/second SATA interface and hence upgraded the cache memory from 32MB to 64Mb. They also explained that the 64MB cache maximizes burst performance and prevents data throughput bottlenecks, therefore boosting the performance of cache –efficient games and video-editing tools. To ensure that the 6 GB/sec SATA interface was a success, Seagate collaborated with Intel, Microsoft, marvel and Asus.
