Offering the same basic design as the W705 is the Sony Ericsson W705a, commonly known as the Telstra-version that provides a completely new dimension within the usability of the interface.
This slider handset is certainly not lacking in an appealing design with black-brushed steel finish, rear case of matte black, and shiny chrome edging. Although wiggling is felt in the upper-half of the slider, the phone feels durable. A lock-slider made of plastic seems to work efficient for holding down the battery cover. Of course a Telstra exclusive would not be complete without the Telstra brand that is set just below the controls.
The controls that have been set into the Sony Ericsson W705a are user-friendly, making it easy to maneuver. There are two buttons to answer or end calls, and there are several buttons usable for short cuts. The pad provides five-way navigational functionality, also used for music playback.
Even though the keypad on the handset appears to be flat, it is raised slightly and gives plenty of room for comfortable use. Many individuals find this aspect to be much easier for fast typing and sending messages.
Access to the Next G network is great, but even more so is user interface on the Sony Ericsson W705a that provides you with the TelstraOne experience of excellence that is exclusive only to Telstra. This gives you an overlay on the home screen that makes it fast and easy to access your favorite applications, such as BigPond services, contacts, a search function, and messages. Icons located in a 3×4 grid in My Place makes it easy to arrange and rearrange them any way you prefer.
Versatility in the short cuts include Telstra BigPond links, Telstra’s mobile Foxtel, applications, widgets, Web links, Trading Post, and Yellow Pages. Adding various social networking clients is a breeze, making the addition of Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook easy to achieve.
The Sony Ericsson W705a has earned popularity with several of its features, especially the menu – TelstraOne Experience. Its design reduces the number of times users generally need to go into the main menu. Customization abilities are amazing and the switch from screen to screen is quite smooth.
The most recent releases on the Walkman music software is included, and you receive clear crisp sound from the headphones, and this is even true with Bass. Although there is no headphone jack, an adapter is included that works with standard headphones. There are several presets, and you can adjust the Bass and Treble according to your own taste in sound.

One fantastic feature of the Sony Ericsson W705a is the TrackID. Simply record a few seconds of your pick in songs, send it to a database that holds music, and if its recognized, you are sent the album, title, and the artist name. The phone includes an FM radio, and A2DP Bluetooth. Shake It! And SensME are also great features that you receive. You can quickly skip any track by shaking the device with Shake It! AND you can create your own play-list with SensME, based on tempo and mood.
Sony Ericsson W705a is the first to include Wi-Fi in Walkman handsets, and it is HSDPA-capable. A benefit that comes with the Telstra exclusive, is it functions on the same spectrum that Telco’s Next G network is using, and is the 850MHz 3G. It is equipped with internal memory of 120MB, and a (M2) Memory Stick Micro with 4GB memory.
This amazing handset gives users numerous features to enjoy, such as choice selections of Sony Ericsson’s applications, including Music DJ, PhotoDJ, and VideoDJ, 3.2 mega-pixel camera and flash, and video player. Sound recording capabilities, remote control, and a USB 2.0 connection (using proprietary USB ports) are included, along with basics like a calculator, stopwatch and timer, tasks, notes, calendar, alarms, and others.
