The HP Mini 1151NR Netbook Review
Laptops — By Ricky on June 2, 2009 at 12:15 amThe HP Mini 1151 NR Netbook has a lot to offer with a 1.60 GHz Intel Atom processor and 1024 GB ram installed into the notebook. HP has merged two powerful technologies with 3G, the 1.60 processor, the amount of ram and the small size. The HP Mini 1151NR now has the advantage of Verizon 3G enabled, this is something that many mobile phone users are familiar with and is subsidized with a 2 year agreement for Verizon services. The size and weight, along with some of the unique networking features make the HP notebook the perfect one to go mobile with for travel, coffee shops, libraries or anywhere.
The design is slim and sleek with an edge-to-edge keyboard on the HP 1151NR giving the user a larger than average keyboard space in a mini and making it user friendly for extended typing. The other features that are offered on the HP Mini 1151NR Netbook are:

- There is an 80 GB 4,200 rpm hard drive

The weight of the HP Mini 1151NR is one of the thinnest notebooks and the weight makes it good for travel and work with a large keyboard with flat easy to use keys. The touch pad is wide and short with the right and left mouse keys to the side of the touch pad instead of the usual placement below the touch pad. This different placement does have the advantage with the smaller laptop of not being accidentally clicked while typing. The on and off switch is located on the front of the notebook and is a slider, this helps to protect the notebook to be accidentally turned off and on. This is a nice feature when running on battery power to not drain the battery by accidentally turning the notebook on without realizing it has been turned on.
Setting up the 3G-network access takes approximately 15 minutes to install and update the Verizon software. There are currently two Verizon plans, the 250 MB plan monthly for $39 and the 5GB monthly data plan that is $59, this plan is the same as the unlimited Internet plans that other services offer. This is currently the only notebook with the 3G type features, with AT&T planning to offer something along the same lines in the future for notebook users, but for now the Verizon 3G is unique to the HP 1151 NR.
The HP Mini 1151NR has a 10.1 inch screen with a display of 1,024 x 576 native resolution, which is standard for the smaller notebooks with screens this size. This is a good size for web surfing and with long word documents it can require a lot of scrolling. The screen is glossy and runs from edge to edge for the maximum screen allowance. The battery has a battery life of 2 hours and 30 minutes during a video playback test with the 6-cell battery. This 6 cell battery will run longer under normal working conditions as video uses more power than web surfing or working in office documents. The 6 cell battery is standard with notebooks of this size and the time limits on the battery drain during video playback testing.
The HP 1151NR has a standard industry warranty that includes one year on parts and labor from HP. There is toll free telephone support 24 hours a day 7 days a week for technical issues. The HP website has driver downloads and a knowledge base for technical problems and other questions that arise with use of the HP 1151NR notebook.
